Darkroom Chemicals

Developer makes the image appear,  it ‘develops’ it. Over-developing can cause damage to the image to fall off.

Stop Bath, this chemical stops the developer as to not make an over-developed image

Fixer rinses any excess chemicals off and ‘fixes’ the film so it isn’t light sensitive any longer. Over-fixing can cause the paper to go pink due to over-developing

Wash, washes the chemicals off of the film, prevents too much fixer or developer causing problems.

Also, some artefacts in the images can be caused when you touch the film, also, light spots and non-exposed points can appear due to spattering of chemicals or a poor light-seal on your camera of choice.

When developing film, people sometimes pull it out of the clamp, this can tear or mark the film or the chemical coverings on the film.
